About Resurgo

Resurgo means to “Rise Up Again" in Latin.

Resurgo was founded by our founder, Anand Vijakumar, in 2022.

After experiencing various therapy providers in his journey to heal from trauma, depression and anxiety, Anand found that there is a wide spectrum of therapy services and learned that the high cost of such services robbed many of the chance to rise up again from their challenges.

After the long and arduous recovery journey, Anand was inspired to start Resurgo to bring therapy and coaching services to those who need it at an affordable rate.

Resurgo aims to reach out to anyone from all walks of life and countries through its online counselling and coaching services.

Many who face crippling mental health, relationship or youth related issues have tried various services in the hope of getting better.

However, most services tend to be not time bound and drag on for years without a clear prognosis.

In Resurgo, therapy and coaching services are time bound which allows you to set achievable goals and attain it within 5-6 months.

This allows you to carry on living the best version of your life after the end of our intervention.

About Our Founder

Anand Vijakumar started his career as a social worker. He specialised in working with individuals and families who were experiencing family violence. As his career progressed, he focused on building his knowledge and skills set in working with clients who have experienced trauma. Apart from family violence cases, Anand specialised in working with clients who are homeless and experienced the trauma of losing their homes due to relationship breakdown, poverty and mental health struggles. Anand also worked with clients and youth with incarceration backgrounds. In his work with this population, Anand advocated for equal rights and second chances with prospective employers and assisted them to attain stable housing. Anand also worked on research studies to increase awareness on the impact of trauma on adults and youth who are incarcerated.

Anand has extensive training and practice experience in areas such as trauma, mental health, coaching and mentoring. He also has a post-graduate certification in clinical and casework supervision. He is a certified trainer and has conducted various workshops. He is also one of the few trauma systems therapy practioners in Singapore. With his expertise as a trauma trained practioner, Anand also utilises strengths-based systemic interventions in his practice. His interventions are crafted by comprehensive assessments and are evidence-based to maximise results.

Anand’s approach to therapy is heavily influenced by his encounters with various therapists and psychologists in his road to recovery. Anand experienced challenges in finding a suitable therapist that was able to help him and faced multiple challenges due to high costs and seemingly never-ending nature of conventional therapy. However, this journey taught him many valuable lessons and inspired him to help those who are experiencing similar challenges in their lives. As a survivor of depression and trauma, Anand believes that there is always light at the end of the tunnel and everyone has the strength to rise up again. His mission is to be a beacon of hope and journey with his clients.

Therapy Testimonials

Jennifer Sim (Singapore)

I have been to countless counsellors for the past 6 years without getting any better.

I learnt more about myself and found ways to cope with my depression in the sessions with Anand.

He helped me instil belief that I can get better at the end of the therapy.

Muhd Raihan (Singapore)

Anand was patient, thorough and has a good sense of humour.

In my sessions, I did not feel that I was talking to a therapist who was cold and distant (from my past experiences).

His optimism never failed to lift me up.

Abby (Australia)

My journey with Resurgo was fuss free and I always got prompt response from the admin team.

Anand takes the time to read my messages/emails and replies almost immediately despite the time difference.

I was skeptical at the start about online counselling but my sessions with Anand was personal and his warmth helped me feel that I was actually in a physical session.

Cornelius Liau (Singapore)

I was struggling to understand my son and his behaviours.

Through my sessions with Anand, I was able to understand the trauma my son has gone through and my own childhood trauma that is restricting me from being a good parent.

The single sessions with me and my son and the subsequent joint sessions were very helpful.

I was able to better bond and support my son.

Meenakshi Perumal (Singapore)

I was stuck in an abusive marriage for more than 7 years and was struggling with my decision to divorce my husband.

Anand helped me find my voice after so many years of being repressed.

He was knowledgeable in divorce law matters and helped me navigate the confusing processes.

Now I’m happily divorced and have custody of my daughter.

I am able to sleep and in a better place from where I started.

Esther & Winston (Singapore)

My husband and I were heading towards separation.

We decided to try couple counselling at Resurgo as a last resort.

As the sessions are online, we can tune in after work from our home.

We were able to work on our communication and heal from past hurt.

Anand was impartial and was open to hearing from both of us.

He is warm and at the same time direct in his approach.

Supervision and Coaching Testimonials

Pei Yin (Social Worker)

Anand is a very patient and supportive supervisor. He does not judge and encourages me to be kind to myself.

He is very experienced and knowledgeable. He does not give solutions but processes with me on how I can improve my sessions with my clients.

He also shares articles that I can read to improve my skills.

Razeena Binte Yusof (S0cial Worker)

I attended group supervision with my colleagues and Anand was quick to learn that I was anxious to share in front of my team.

He was patient and encouraged me by speaking to me before the supervision session to prepare what I was about to present.

He is very good with what he does so he was able to guide me and provide a safe environment for learning.

Samuel Wong (Case Worker)

I was a psychology trained caseworker who felt out of my depth in case management.

Anand was able to identify my strengths and motivate me to craft and carry out sessions without the need to change who I am.

I have experienced supervisors who try to make me a carbon copy of them.

Anand allowed me to maintain my individuality and express myself using my own strengths.

Joanna Wang (Social Worker)

Anand has always provided a safe space during his supervision, allowing me to vent my frustrations while providing concrete suggestions to the difficulties I've faced at work.

He is also a personal supervisor who prioritized my overall well-being and safety as a worker e.g., being always contactable during case emergencies/taking over sessions when I'm unwell or overwhelmed.

Lastly, we would always respect the autonomy of our clients in our practise.

Similarly, Anand is a supervisor and leader who values a supervisee’s autonomy.

His guidance never hampered my freedom and my responsibility in case assessment.
